Standard air purifiers excel at trapping dust and pollen but often fail to neutralize dangerous gases like formaldehyde and benzene. Greenairy addresses this by accelerating the natural filtration capacity of plants. By creating specific environmental conditions around the vegetation, the company claims its towers process air significantly faster than a standard potted plant, while avoiding the frequent filter replacements required by HEPA systems.

Greenairy Targets Indoor Air Pollution With Engineered Plant Towers
After witnessing a friend collapse from toxic fumes in a university makerspace, engineering students Tanvi Thombre and Lakshya Saraf founded Greenairy. The startup uses specialized plant towers to scrub volatile organic compounds from indoor air, aiming to solve the limitations of traditional mechanical purifiers in sealed commercial environments.

Internal tests conducted in Singapore using RESET-certified monitors showed a 50% reduction in average VOC levels compared to offices using medical-grade ionizers or standard HEPA purifiers. These results, which the founders state have been validated by the German testing firm TÜV SÜD, suggest that biological filtration provides a cleaner, more sustainable alternative for corporate settings. With founders split between Berkeley and Singapore, the team is currently preparing for large-scale manufacturing with a target to launch mass-produced units by early 2027.
