Sercomm and Broadcom Launch RDK Reference Hardware for Developers

Broadcom’s BCM74116 chipset now powers a new Sercomm reference set-top box, designed to streamline application development for the RDK ecosystem. By offering this high-performance hardware, the partners aim to accelerate the deployment of next-generation interactive TV, cloud gaming, and edge-AI services for global operators.

The device serves as a specialized sandbox for developers to validate and test applications before they reach consumer hardware. Beyond basic streaming, the platform integrates LPDDR5 memory, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0, alongside a neural processing unit for edge-AI tasks. Security is bolstered by Post-Quantum Cryptography, while Matter and Thread support ensure the box functions as a hub for smart home connectivity.

For service providers, this hardware provides a standardized foundation that remains consistent across various access networks, including GPON, DOCSIS, and fixed wireless. RDK management allows operators to maintain control over their user interfaces, telemetry, and analytics, reducing the friction typically associated with multi-vendor deployments. Jason Briggs, President and GM of RDK, noted that providing high-performance hardware removes a significant barrier for developers aiming to build and scale new video experiences.
