Hydreight-Backed Insu Therapeutics Secures Patent for Needle-Free Delivery

Insu Therapeutics has received a Notice of Allowance from the USPTO for its buccal peptide-delivery technology, a move that bolsters the intellectual property foundation for the company’s needle-free insulin and GLP-1 formulations. Hydreight Technologies, which holds a strategic stake in the biotech firm, maintains rights for future U.S. distribution.

Hydreight-Backed Insu Therapeutics Secures Patent for Needle-Free Delivery

The allowed patent, U.S. Application No. 18/513,373, covers a mucoadhesive, layered dosage form designed to deliver peptide medicines through the lining of the mouth. This architecture facilitates unidirectional release, allowing drugs like insulin and semaglutide to be absorbed directly into the underlying tissue rather than processed through the gastrointestinal tract. The innovation aims to eliminate the need for traditional injections and fasting requirements associated with current peptide therapies.

Hydreight CEO Shane Madden stated that the development aligns with the company’s goal of bridging therapeutic innovation with U.S. healthcare infrastructure. Hydreight currently operates a network connecting thousands of nurses and doctors across all 50 states, providing a potential pathway for commercializing Insu’s products, InsuTab and BuccaGLP, should they clear clinical development and regulatory hurdles. Both products remain investigational and are not yet approved for sale, with Insu holding an exclusive worldwide license from the University of British Columbia for the underlying technology.
