Vinci Pharmaceuticals Secures $8 Million to Advance Needle-Free Eye Implant

Vinci Pharmaceuticals has closed an $8 million Series A funding round, bringing its total capital raised to over $16.5 million. The New Jersey-based company is developing EPIPLANT, an episcleral drug delivery platform designed to replace traditional, high-burden intraocular injections with a sustained-release, needle-free alternative for treating retinal diseases.

The financing round, led by Dynagrow Capital with participation from MintPharma Capital, provides the necessary runway for GMP manufacturing and essential testing ahead of the company's first-in-human trials. Vinci plans to initiate a Phase 1/2a study for its lead product, VCI-002, in 2027. Originally developed in the laboratory of Dr. Karl Csaky and licensed from the Retina Foundation of the Southwest, the platform aims to address the high patient dropout rates often associated with the frequent, invasive injections currently standard for retinal care.

By utilizing a bioerodible implant that delivers targeted drug levels directly to the macula, Vinci hopes to expand treatment options for conditions that remain difficult to manage with current therapies. CEO Philip A. Gioia noted that the funding marks a critical transition from laboratory development to clinical application. With multiple patents already secured, the company is positioning the technology as a versatile, multi-molecule platform capable of supporting a range of ophthalmic treatments.
