Canela Media Unveils Cultural Cohort Targeting for Hispanic Audiences

Canela Media is shifting how brands target U.S. Hispanic consumers by launching six proprietary culture-based audience segments. Now available via Canela Audience Solutions, these cohorts allow marketers to move beyond basic demographics, focusing instead on how individual consumers express, navigate, and engage with their cultural identity in daily life.

Canela Media Unveils Cultural Cohort Targeting for Hispanic Audiences

The expansion follows the company’s August study, which categorized Hispanic consumers into six distinct groups: Cultural Preservers, Navigators, Remixers, Culturally Fluid, Culturally Adjacent, and Cultural Reactors. By mapping these profiles against existing behavioral data, Canela Media enables brands to execute campaigns that align with specific cultural motivations rather than generic messaging.

Paula Baldwin, VP of Brand Partnerships, noted that the strategy relies on combining these cohorts to tailor creative environments and timing. For instance, brands can target Cultural Preservers through heritage-rooted content, while simultaneously reaching Cultural Remixers with shareable, bilingual media. These segments are accessible directly through Canela Media or via major DSPs and SSPs, allowing for programmatic activation that mirrors the nuances of the 1,975-respondent research study conducted earlier this year.

The platform categorizes these interactions into three operational pillars: serving identity-focused content to preserve heritage, engaging active participants in current cultural conversations, and reconnecting with audiences through nostalgia and community triggers. This approach aims to replace traditional, one-size-fits-all demographic targeting with a framework that reflects the lived experience of U.S. Hispanic audiences.
