Heaphy originally traveled to Dannemora with a specific mission: to persuade the 24-year-old rapper to headline a concert aimed at curbing youth violence. The project stalled when Shakur revealed his imminent release, shifting the focus of the encounter toward a raw, personal reflection on his future. While the concert never materialized, the resulting tapes remained in Heaphy’s possession for over three decades.

Unseen 1995 Tupac Shakur Interview Footage to Premiere Online
Thirty-one years after his release from Clinton Correctional Facility, a candid 1995 interview with Tupac Shakur is set for public release. Filmmaker Patrick Heaphy, who captured the footage during the artist's incarceration, will debut the extended conversation on YouTube this October 12, marking the anniversary of Shakur's freedom.

To coincide with the premiere, the filmmaker plans to auction the original Sony camera used during the shoot alongside the source tapes. Heaphy, who holds the U.S. copyright for the footage, views these items as historical artifacts rather than mere production gear. A portion of the proceeds from the sale is earmarked to finally fund the anti-violence concert envisioned in 1995, with a crowdfunding campaign also in development to support the initiative. The premiere, hosted by Heaphy’s production company LCM247, serves as the first step in reviving that long-dormant mission.
