OCUDU 26.10 Adds Satellite Support to Open Source RAN

The OCUDU Ecosystem Foundation has launched OCUDU 26.10, a significant update to its open source RAN platform that integrates 3GPP Release 17 Non-Terrestrial Network support. This release marks a shift toward more complex wireless infrastructure, bridging the gap between traditional terrestrial systems and emerging satellite-based 5G connectivity.

OCUDU 26.10 Adds Satellite Support to Open Source RAN

The latest iteration of the OCUDU technical project introduces O-RAN Split 7.2b and advanced 8T8R MIMO capabilities, aimed at providing developers with greater flexibility in radio processing and antenna configuration. By incorporating native 5G positioning and enhanced beamforming, the platform now supports more sophisticated location-aware applications and higher network capacity. Security remains a priority in this release, with the integration of DTLS signaling encryption and expanded continuous fuzz testing to ensure resilience in real-world environments.

Arpit Joshipura, general manager of networking, edge and IoT at the Linux Foundation, noted that the project has seen substantial growth, with active contributors doubling since the foundation's inception. This collaborative momentum will be the focus of the upcoming OCUDU Ecosystem Developer Summit, scheduled for October 20-22 in Alexandria, Virginia. Co-hosted with Virginia Tech and the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative, the event will offer technical sessions on integrating these new features into existing 5G and 6G infrastructure plans.
