Eastern Michigan University begins transformation of Pierce Hall

A groundbreaking ceremony on October 15 will signal the start of a major renovation at Pierce Hall, the future home of Eastern Michigan University’s College of Business. The project aims to modernize educational infrastructure and create a centralized hub for student resources, with the initial phase scheduled for completion by fall 2027.

The expansion focuses on fostering career readiness through contemporary classrooms and specialized facilities, such as the Stephen J. Klotz Financial Learning Center. By consolidating academic advising, career services, and internship support into a single student success suite, the university intends to streamline access to professional development. The design also incorporates flexible meeting areas and an executive training center to encourage direct interaction between students and regional industry leaders.

Beyond student-facing amenities, the renovation addresses critical building infrastructure, including upgrades to cooling towers, electrical systems, and air handlers. Dean Amy Hietapelto stated that the facility will serve as a gateway for faculty and community engagement, while President Brendan Kelly emphasized that the investment directly supports Michigan’s workforce needs. This project marks a shift toward an applied learning model, intended to provide students with the technical and collaborative skills required by the current economy.
