The anniversary program included masterclasses led by Wine Folly co-founder Madeline Puckette, focusing on the aging potential of the region's diverse varietals. Producers showcased signature whites like Pinot Bianco and Gewürztraminer alongside reds such as Pinot Nero and Lagrein, emphasizing the unique terroir that defines the area. Alto Adige Wines Marks Two Decades of U.S. Market Growth
Two hundred wine professionals gathered at 22 Vanderbilt in New York City on October 6 to commemorate twenty years of Alto Adige’s presence in the United States. The event, featuring 28 producers, highlighted the evolution of the Alpine region’s trade footprint since its formal American debut in 2006.
Eduard Bernhart, director of the Consorzio, noted that the U.S. currently stands as their second-largest export market by value. Despite a shifting economic climate and evolving consumer preferences, the region remains focused on deepening these established trade relationships. Margit Gamper, director of business development at IDM South Tyrol, affirmed that the commitment to the American market persists through educational initiatives and direct engagement, ensuring that the distinct character of these Alpine wines continues to resonate with an increasingly sophisticated audience.
