Inside the Theranos Archive: A Digital Desk Simulator

A new interactive website invites users to sit at Elizabeth Holmes’ desk, providing a tactile, immersive dive into the evidence from the United States v. Elizabeth Holmes trial. Engineer Bo Lau curated thousands of authentic emails, texts, and slides, transforming dense legal discovery into a navigable, 2016-era digital workspace.

Inside the Theranos Archive: A Digital Desk Simulator

The site recreates a specific moment in Silicon Valley history, complete with OS X El Capitan interfaces and the slide-to-unlock functionality of older iPhones. Visitors can inspect internal Theranos documents or attempt to operate the Edison machine, the failed blood-testing device central to the company's collapse. By organizing exhibits that were previously buried in cumbersome court PDFs, the project offers a unique perspective on the corporate culture that preceded the fraud scandal.

Beyond the historical recreation, the project serves as a promotional vehicle for Extend, the software company behind the build. Lau is leveraging the viral nature of the simulator to highlight her company’s document-parsing capabilities and to organize a watch party for Nathan Fielder’s upcoming documentary, "You Can See Everything." While the simulator functions as a clever marketing tool for B2B software, it remains a remarkably efficient way to explore the primary sources of one of the most significant trials in modern tech history.
