Ontario International Airport Secures Credit Upgrades

Ten years after returning to local ownership, Ontario International Airport has secured an A+ rating from Fitch and an A rating from S&P Global. These financial milestones validate a decade of rapid expansion that saw annual passenger volume climb from 4.3 million to more than 7 million travelers.

The dual credit upgrades reflect the airport's evolution into a premier Southern California economic hub. Fitch elevated its assessment from a prior A- rating, citing robust passenger growth and improved airline use agreements. Simultaneously, S&P Global highlighted the authority’s conservative financial management and capital planning as primary drivers for its stable outlook. These ratings arrive as the facility approaches the tenth anniversary of its shift to local control, a period marked by a significant broadening of its domestic and international route networks.

CEO Atif Elkadi pointed to the airport’s “ONT BOLD” initiative as the framework for future development, aiming to balance infrastructure expansion with the convenience that has defined the airport’s recent success. Beyond its role in regional transit, the facility now generates nearly $5 billion in annual economic output. By maintaining competitive cost structures and strong debt service coverage, the authority has positioned itself to support the Inland Empire’s shifting logistics and population needs, signaling that the current growth trajectory remains a core component of its long-term strategic planning.
