Infinity Power Taps AIKO for 773.5 MWp South African Solar Expansion

With the selection of 1.19 million high-efficiency solar modules, Infinity Power has secured AIKO to power three major utility-scale projects in South Africa. This deal pushes the partnership's total African renewable capacity beyond the 2 GWp milestone, marking their first joint venture within the South African market.

Infinity Power Taps AIKO for 773.5 MWp South African Solar Expansion

The 773.5 MWp portfolio encompasses the Highveld project in Mpumalanga and two Onderstepoort Solar sites in the northwest. These installations, awarded under the government’s REIPPPP Bid Window 7, are slated to operate under 20-year power purchase agreements with Eskom. Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy will oversee construction at Highveld, while PowerChina Guizhou Engineering manages the Onderstepoort sites.

AIKO’s ABC modules were chosen for their 24.1% efficiency and high-temperature performance, which are critical for South Africa’s demanding climate. By reducing the total module count and balance-of-system components, the technology aims to stabilize project economics amid tightening tender tariffs. Once operational, the collective sites are expected to generate over 1,871 GWh annually, offsetting approximately 1.7 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

This expansion builds on previous collaborations between the two firms in Egypt, including the 258.5 MWp Nefer Benban and 1.2 GWp Nefer Menya projects. For Infinity Power, a joint venture between Infinity and Masdar, the move aligns with a broader strategy to reach 10 GW of operational capacity by 2032.
