O'Brien Auto Team Acquires Kentucky's Historic Jack Kain Ford

After 67 years under family ownership, the storied Jack Kain Ford in Versailles, Kentucky, has changed hands. Bob Kain, Vickie Kain Fister, and Pat Kain finalized the sale of their dealership to the O'Brien Auto Team, marking the end of a multi-generational legacy in the regional automotive market.

O'Brien Auto Team Acquires Kentucky's Historic Jack Kain Ford

The transition brings a close to a business history that began in 1953 when Jack Kain acquired a DeSoto-Plymouth dealership in Frankfort. The Ford franchise relocated to Versailles in 1979, growing into a cornerstone of the community. Over the decades, the dealership earned industry honors, including the 2013 Salute to Dealers Award from Ford Motor Company. Bob Kain described the decision to sell as deeply personal, noting that the brokers at Performance Brokerage Services, Mark Shackelford, Sr. and Mark Shackelford, Jr., provided guidance that extended beyond the financial mechanics of the deal.

The buying party, O'Brien Auto Team, is led by Joe O'Brien and Managing Partner Mason Moore. Founded in 1987, the group has expanded its footprint across Illinois, Kentucky, and California, representing a diverse portfolio of automotive brands. With this acquisition, the location will be rebranded as O'Brien Ford. The facility will remain at its current site in Versailles, maintaining the operational presence established by the Kain family over the last half-century.
