Blue Cross Offers Free Bluebikes Credits for Mental Health Day

To mark World Mental Health Day, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is offering $15 in ride credits to encourage outdoor activity and community connection. The promotion arrives as the city prepares for Sunday’s Ride & Chill event, underscoring the insurer's push to integrate physical movement into mental wellness routines.

Starting October 9, users can redeem the credit by entering the code BCBSHEALTHYOCT in the Bluebikes mobile application. The balance remains valid for one year across the entire 13-municipality system, covering roughly one to two-and-a-half hours of riding time depending on the user's membership status and the type of bike selected. The offer is available while supplies last.

This initiative culminates in the Ride & Chill event scheduled for October 11 at Franklin Park’s Shattuck Picnic Area. From 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the free community gathering will feature guided group rides, safety demonstrations, and local entertainment. Jeff Bellows, vice president of corporate citizenship at Blue Cross, noted that the program aims to lower barriers for residents seeking both individual headspace and social engagement. Mayor Michelle Wu added that the partnership aligns with the city's broader efforts to improve health outcomes through accessible, family-friendly recreation. Since 2018, Blue Cross has served as the title sponsor for the system, which now encompasses over 5,500 bikes and 600 stations.
