Metastatic breast cancer occurs when the disease spreads to vital organs like the bones, liver, lungs, or brain. Unlike early-stage detection efforts, the reality of Stage 4 cancer involves continuous, lifelong treatment. With an estimated 42,670 deaths from breast cancer projected in the United States for 2026, the demand for targeted scientific funding remains critical. METAvivor, a nonprofit dedicated exclusively to Stage 4 research, utilizes the proceeds from this campaign to award grants through a rigorous peer-review process.

Global Landmarks to Illuminate for Metastatic Breast Cancer Research
On October 13, over 325 landmarks across 20 countries will glow in teal, green, and pink to mark National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The #LightUpMBC campaign seeks to shift public focus toward Stage 4 research, aiming to transform a terminal diagnosis into a manageable, survivable condition.
This year’s initiative includes a global livestream event hosted by Tami Eagle Bowling and Kara Lindsay. The broadcast will feature patient narratives alongside scientific updates and performances by artists including Victoria Clark and Christina Bianco. Since its inception, the movement—inspired by the late Jessica Moore—has raised over $2.7 million for research. Iconic sites such as One World Trade Center and Niagara Falls will participate, serving as a visual reminder of the ongoing need for therapeutic breakthroughs.
