Trasnocho Cultural Center Secures $40 Million Investment for Upgrades

A US$40 million private investment is set to transform Caracas’s Trasnocho Cultural complex over the next three years. Backed by the Belén Clarisa Velutini Trust, the capital injection aims to modernize the historic hub’s infrastructure while preserving the architectural legacy of designer Jimmy Alcock in a recovering Venezuelan market.

The project represents a significant shift for the mixed-use site, which integrates the cultural center, the Paseo Las Mercedes hotel, and the Trasnocho Mall. Jorge Kiriakidis of KLMC Legal, representing the Herrera Velutini family trust, confirmed that initial work has already begun on technological upgrades for the facility’s cinema and theater spaces. The next phase centers on a comprehensive renovation of the Paseo Las Mercedes hotel, intended to position it as a premier luxury destination in southeastern Caracas.

Beyond physical construction, the investment seeks to revitalize the site’s programming to engage younger demographics. This renewal aligns with a broader trend of private capital returning to Venezuela as the country navigates a complex economic recovery. Melanie de Herrera Velutini, president of the namesake foundation, emphasized that the initiative extends to social and educational programs, continuing the philanthropic work of the late Belén Clarisa Velutini. By blending high-end hospitality with cultural preservation, the project attempts to maintain a model that has served as a blueprint for urban hubs both locally and internationally.
