Perceive Bio Hits Enrollment Milestone for GA Gene Therapy Trial

Perceive Biotherapeutics has surpassed its recruitment goal for the Phase 2a JOURNEY study, testing the gene therapy VOY-101 for geographic atrophy. With 94 eyes enrolled across 47 participants, the company is now positioned to deliver topline 15-month data for the potential one-time treatment by late 2027.

The JOURNEY trial, a randomized, open-label study, evaluates a single intravitreal injection of VOY-101. By utilizing a fellow-eye controlled design, investigators aim to isolate the therapy's impact on lesion size while accounting for individual genetic and environmental variables. VOY-101 functions by encoding a protective variant of Complement Factor H, seeking to restore pathway regulation in patients suffering from the advanced form of dry age-related macular degeneration.

Simultaneously, the South San Francisco-based company has expanded its leadership, appointing Tony Gibney to its Board of Directors. Gibney, a veteran executive with a history at Iveric Bio and Aura Biosciences, brings extensive experience in navigating the regulatory and strategic landscape of complement-targeted therapies. His appointment coincides with a critical period as the company prepares for its upcoming clinical readout and potential long-term development of its ocular pipeline.
