Ursula Murua Appointed President of EWTN News

Ursula Murua, a veteran of Catholic media and the current architect of EWTN’s digital strategy, will take the helm as President of EWTN News on November 1. She succeeds Montse Alvarado, who departs to lead the Vatican's Dicastery for Communication following a tenure marked by the unification of the network's global news brands.

Ursula Murua Appointed President of EWTN News

Murua’s appointment follows three decades of work in the sector, including early contributions to the Spanish-language service ACI Prensa. As Director of Digital Strategy and editor-in-chief of ChurchPOP, she has spent the last decade steering the organization through a period of rapid digital expansion. Her leadership has spanned coverage of major ecclesiastical events, ranging from World Youth Days to papal conclaves, cementing her reputation as a strategist capable of navigating both traditional broadcast and emerging mobile platforms.

Michael P. Warsaw, Chairman and CEO of EWTN, cited her ability to balance the mission of the network with the evolving habits of modern news consumers. This transition arrives as the organization continues to integrate its international news entities under the singular EWTN News identity. With the upcoming launch of Spanish and Portuguese versions of its central website, Murua is tasked with overseeing the next phase of this multilingual strategy, focusing on digital missionary work in a landscape increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
