Debevoise & Plimpton Adds Brianna van Kan to IP and Tech Group

Van Kan arrives from an international law firm to advise private equity sponsors, public companies, and strategic investors. Her practice spans high-stakes mergers and acquisitions, carve-outs, and joint ventures, alongside day-to-day licensing and data collaboration agreements. She works across diverse sectors, including life sciences, financial services, and entertainment.

Presiding Partner Peter Furci highlighted the move as a response to the growing influence of AI and data on client operations. Henry Lebowitz, chair of the IP and Technology Transactions group, noted that van Kan’s ability to bridge the gap between major deal-making and operational decision-making provides a distinct advantage for the firm’s clients. Van Kan herself pointed to the firm’s existing depth in data strategy and corporate expertise as the primary motivation for her transition, citing the robust platform for navigating the legal and regulatory hurdles of emerging technologies.
