STERIS to Acquire Surgical Safety Specialist Xodus Medical

After three decades of independent operation, Pittsburgh-based Xodus Medical has agreed to be acquired by global healthcare giant STERIS. The deal unites Xodus’s specialized surgical safety portfolio with the broader infection prevention capabilities of the $6 billion multinational, marking a shift in the market for operating room consumables.

STERIS to Acquire Surgical Safety Specialist Xodus Medical

The acquisition integrates Xodus Medical’s proprietary technology, including its signature Pink Pad patient positioning systems, into the extensive STERIS infrastructure. CEO Craig Kaforey noted that the merger leverages his firm’s growth trajectory—which has recently hit double-digit rates—by tapping into the vast commercial resources and industry reach of his new parent company.

For STERIS, the move is a tactical expansion of its surgical service offerings. Dan Carestio, President and CEO of STERIS, emphasized that the synergy lies in the alignment of their safety-focused missions. The transaction is supported by a robust advisory team: Goldman Sachs and Jones Day advised STERIS, while J.P. Morgan and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius represented Xodus Medical. The integration aims to streamline the availability of specialized operating room consumables for hospital networks globally.
