Tremfya shows consistent fistula remission in complex Crohn's patients

New Phase 3 data reveals that Johnson & Johnson’s Tremfya maintains consistent fistula remission rates across diverse Crohn’s disease patient subgroups, including those previously exposed to biologics. Presented at the ACG 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting, the findings reinforce the drug's efficacy in managing one of the condition's most debilitating complications.

Tremfya shows consistent fistula remission in complex Crohn's patients

The FUZION study, the first dedicated randomized trial for perianal fistulizing Crohn’s disease in over two decades, indicates that Tremfya provides significant clinical benefits compared to placebo. At the 24-week mark, patients receiving the medication saw combined fistula remission rates reaching 28%, positioning the IL-23 inhibitor as a viable option for a population that frequently struggles with persistent pain and surgical interventions.

Subgroup analyses further clarify the drug's performance across specific clinical profiles. Among patients with prior biologic exposure, remission rates reached up to 29%, compared to 5% for those on placebo. Similarly, individuals with baseline luminal disease activity (CDAI ≥220) showed remission rates of 30% with the 100 mg dose. These results remain consistent regardless of whether a patient presented with proctitis at the start of the study, suggesting a broad applicability for the treatment in complex scenarios where previous therapies may have failed.
