The inaugural Fertility Barometer, commissioned by the IVI Institute, challenges the common assumption that people are simply choosing to remain childless. Data indicates that 36% of women who set a target age for starting a family ultimately reach that milestone later than planned, often resulting in smaller families than they originally envisioned. The primary drivers of this trend include difficulty finding the right partner, personal maturity, and the rising prevalence of infertility.
Infertility remains a significant, often hidden, burden. Approximately 19% of women surveyed have encountered fertility issues, with 6.8 million currently navigating the experience. Despite the availability of medical interventions, only 18% of those who sought professional advice proceeded with IVF. Most cite emotional stress, financial concerns, and a lack of confidence in success as the primary reasons for stopping their treatment journey.
