Equifax Targets Mortgage Underwriting Friction with Adaptive Automation

By combining automated income checks from The Work Number® with its Network Verification Services, the company claims it can hit a 95% fulfillment rate for loan originations.

Equifax Targets Mortgage Underwriting Friction with Adaptive Automation

The platform addresses the high costs and slow turnaround times that plague traditional loan processing. By integrating instant verification data with a secondary network for manual follow-ups, the system aims to automate the workflow from initial application through to the final closing. Joel Rickman, General Manager of U.S. Mortgage and Verification Services, notes that the product is designed to eliminate the friction caused by juggling multiple single-point vendors.

Beyond speed, the offering introduces a predictable pricing model and a 90-day window that covers the initial income check plus three subsequent employment updates. This structure is intended to provide lenders with cost certainty throughout the underwriting cycle. With 72% of requests fulfilled instantly and the remainder processed within 48 hours, the system includes a zero-hit protection policy to ensure lenders only pay when data is successfully retrieved. The solution is slated for a full market release in early 2027.
