A $20,000 grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation is fueling the River Bend Food Bank’s mission to supply essential meals to children, seniors, and families across Iowa. The funding, part of the 2026 Keep Communities Flowing program, bolsters the food bank’s "All Hands on Deck" initiative against regional hunger.

Iowa American Water Grants $20,000 to Combat Regional Food Insecurity

Iowa American Water President Brad Nielsen and Interim CEO of River Bend Food Bank Nikki Habben met in Davenport to formalize the partnership. Beyond the monetary contribution, 43 Iowa American Water employees recently participated in food-packing events, assembling 600 boxes that yielded roughly 6,000 meals for local residents.

Habben noted that the corporate support directly scales the food bank's capacity to reach vulnerable populations. For Nielsen, the initiative represents a commitment to community stability that extends past the utility's primary mandate of water and wastewater management. The State Strategic Impact grant focuses on the foundation's core pillars of water, people, and community resilience.
