Apple Launches Home Hardware Line to Challenge Nest and Ring
Apple is mounting a direct challenge to Amazon’s Ring and Google’s Nest with the launch of the Apple Home Collection, a suite of connected devices ranging from smart locks to security cameras. Arriving in December, the hardware marks a strategic shift toward third-party manufacturing partnerships to secure market share.

The smart lock, priced at $349.95, utilizes ultra-wideband technology to detect proximity with greater precision than standard Bluetooth, enabling hands-free access for authorized users. The collection also includes a $249.95 wired video doorbell that integrates with existing Apple hardware like the HomePod mini to broadcast visitor alerts. Rounding out the ecosystem are indoor and outdoor cameras, including a $399.95 floodlight model, designed to provide motion-triggered monitoring and intelligent alerts.
