Bracco and Genera New Energy Launch Tuscan Biomethane Facility

Genera New Energy and Bracco Imaging have inaugurated a biomethane production facility in Tuscany, marking a strategic pivot in Bracco’s industrial decarbonization efforts. The project, which converts agricultural by-products and livestock manure into renewable energy, aims to offset 8,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually over the next 15 years.

The facility, developed through a co-investment agreement signed in March 2025, addresses 35% of the natural gas requirements at Bracco’s Ceriano Laghetto manufacturing site. By securing renewable gas attributes through certified Guarantees of Origin, Bracco integrates the plant’s output directly into its steam generation processes. Conversion work on the site concluded in September 2026, following a collaborative development phase led by Genera New Energy.

Genera Group serves as the majority investment partner, overseeing the facility’s technical operations while Greenway Srl manages daily production. The plant utilizes organic waste—specifically agricultural by-products and manure—to generate biomethane, with the resulting digestate earmarked for local agricultural use. This initiative aligns with Bracco’s 2024 emissions reduction roadmap and complements the company’s recent EcoVadis Platinum Medal recognition, which ranks Bracco among the top 1% of assessed global firms for sustainability performance.
