Hormel Foods Marks Two Decades of Sustainability Reporting

Two decades of corporate social responsibility culminated this week as Hormel Foods released its 20th annual Global Impact Report. The Austin-based food giant, which manages a portfolio of brands including SPAM and SKIPPY, detailed its fiscal 2025 progress in environmental stewardship and community investment under its Good Feeds Us All framework.

The report outlines a series of measurable milestones across the company's supply chain. Notable environmental achievements include Applegate Farms reaching its goal of sourcing 100% of beef for its hot dog line from certified regenerative farms. Additionally, the company hit full traceability for its palm oil supply, ensuring all purchases are Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified. Hormel also reported a reduction of more than 2.5 million pounds of virgin plastics in its packaging compared to 2021 levels.

Beyond environmental metrics, the company focused on human capital and community engagement. Hormel invested over $575,000 in tuition assistance for staff and supported 186 students through its Inspired Pathways program, which provides free two-year college education to the dependents of U.S.-based team members. On the philanthropic front, the company donated approximately $12.4 million in cash and products, facilitating the distribution of 5 million pounds of food globally. Interim CEO Jeff Ettinger noted that the company continues to view business success and social responsibility as inextricably linked, a sentiment echoed by incoming CEO John Ghingo, who emphasized the necessity of integrating these priorities into ongoing innovation and operations.
