Which SUV and Truck Tires Last the Longest? Data Reveals the Winners

Drivers looking to extend the time between shop visits have a new benchmark for tire longevity. Discount Tire’s Treadwell tool, which aggregates real-world mileage data, has identified ten light truck and SUV tire models that consistently deliver over 70,000 miles of service, often significantly exceeding their manufacturer-stated warranties.

The rankings highlight a notable gap between warranty promises and actual road performance. Every tire on the top 10 list outperforms its limited treadwear warranty by at least 10,000 miles. The Michelin Defender LTX Platinum leads the pack with a median lifespan of 104,851 miles, while the Falken Wildpeak A/T4W tops the all-terrain category at 84,850 miles.

Dr. John Baldwin, chief product and technical strategist at Discount Tire, notes that the data serves as a resource for drivers prioritizing safety and longevity. These figures assume proper vehicle maintenance, including consistent tire rotations and wheel alignments, which remain critical for hitting these high-mileage marks. With the average U.S. driver covering 13,400 miles annually, choosing a top-tier set could add an extra year of use before replacement becomes necessary. The Treadwell tool utilizes millions of data points, including independent testing at Treadwell Research Park, to generate these personalized recommendations based on specific driving habits and road conditions.
