Garmin Expands Marathon Series to California Coast

Ventura, California, will host the fourth installment of the Garmin Marathon Series on August 22, 2027. The event brings a Boston Marathon-qualifying route to the Pacific coastline, combining high-stakes competition with a scenic course that winds through the city’s historic downtown and mountain-framed surroundings.

The race features a full marathon, a USATF-certified half marathon, along with 10K and 5K options. Runners will start and finish in the heart of Ventura, passing through areas characterized by historic architecture and local businesses, while tracking vistas of the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Organizers intend for the course to blend the region's natural geography with the community’s small-town atmosphere.

Susan Lyman, Garmin’s vice president of consumer sales and marketing, noted that the location was chosen for its vibrant running culture and natural landscape. To manage the logistics of the debut, the city has established a local organizing committee including the Ventura Police Department, the local Chamber of Commerce, and California State Parks. Beyond the race, the weekend will include a two-day public expo showcasing Garmin technology and a downtown festival featuring local food and entertainment.
