American Liver Foundation Marks Half-Century of Advocacy
The American Liver Foundation will mark its 50th anniversary on October 28 at Gotham Hall in New York City. The National Legacy Gala honors the clinicians, researchers, and corporate partners who have shaped the organization’s mission to support the 100 million Americans currently living with various forms of liver disease.

Additional honors go to NOVO for its metabolic health innovations, alongside FDA’s Frank A. Anania and NIDDK’s Jay H. Hoofnagle, who share the Leadership Award for Public Service. The foundation will also present its Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award to Dr. Michael Karin of the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute for his work linking chronic inflammation to cancer. Beyond the awards, the event highlights personal narratives, such as that of U.S. Navy veteran Tommy Nolan, who underwent a lifesaving liver transplant in 2023. Proceeds from the gala, chaired by Samantha Kellner, will fund ongoing research, patient advocacy, and educational resources.
