The new 3D Live Navigation platform replaces traditional, fragmented dashboard displays by integrating road context, 3D building geometry, and active route paths into a single view. Central to this experience is the 'Magic Carpet,' a visual lane-level guide that highlights the path for upcoming maneuvers, reducing the cognitive load required to interpret standard navigation prompts.

Mapbox Debuts 3D Live Navigation for BMW Neue Klasse Vehicles
Drivers in BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse models will navigate via a real-time, 3D interface that merges lane-level guidance with live sensor data. The system, developed by Mapbox, represents a significant shift in automotive UI, projecting vehicle surroundings and route paths directly into the driver’s field of vision.

Beyond basic routing, the system leverages the vehicle's advanced driver-assistance sensors to map pedestrians, road hazards, and neighboring vehicles in real time. This information is rendered across the BMW Panoramic iDrive setup, including the Panoramic Vision and 3D Head-Up displays. Stephan Durach, Senior Vice President of Digital Services at BMW Group, noted that the integration of environmental perception with route guidance serves as a critical bridge toward highly automated driving. Mapbox CEO Peter Sirota described the collaboration as a milestone, emphasizing that the navigation infrastructure was built to provide BMW with the flexibility to craft a distinct, brand-specific digital experience.
