The Miles for the Warriors Challenge launched on September 2 to coincide with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Initially aiming for a 400,000-mile target with a $1 million donation, the community reached that goal within 24 hours. Hyundai responded by twice increasing its targets, ultimately committing $3 million as the collective distance reached 19,959,136 miles. Participants contributed via running, walking, cycling, swimming, and hiking, resulting in over 2.6 million individual activity logs.

Hyundai and Strava Challenge Hits Record 20 Million Miles for Charity
More than 150,000 participants logged nearly 20 million miles in September, shattering Strava’s all-time distance record. The massive effort, part of Hyundai’s “The Mark of a Warrior” campaign, successfully raised $3 million for Hyundai Hope on Wheels to fund critical pediatric cancer research and treatment programs.

Beyond the raw distance, the initiative garnered significant digital engagement, reaching 2.6 million people across social media and the Strava platform. Sean Gilpin, chief marketing officer at Hyundai Motor America, noted the extraordinary scale of support for families affected by the disease. While the primary challenge has concluded, the manufacturer continues its fundraising through December 31, 2026, pledging an additional $36 per qualifying social media post to support the nonprofit’s mission.
