The appointment arrives as part of a broader five-year strategic plan for the MSBDC. Council members are tasked with identifying emerging business needs and fostering collaborations that help startups move beyond the prototype phase. Mackey noted that the primary challenge for Massachusetts entrepreneurs remains bridging the gap between ingenuity and sustainable, real-world application through proper guidance and strategic connections.

Beacon CEO ML Mackey Joins MSBDC Statewide Advisory Council
ML Mackey, CEO and co-founder of Waltham-based Beacon Interactive Systems, has joined the newly formed Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Statewide Advisory Council. The group brings together leaders from government and the private sector to help refine how the organization supports local entrepreneurs and growing companies across the Commonwealth.

Her role on the council complements an extensive background in small business advocacy and defense-sector innovation. Mackey previously chaired the National Small Business Association and served on the Small Business Administration’s Invention and Innovation Advisory Committee. At Beacon, she has focused on scaling digital solutions for the U.S. Navy, where the company’s technology is currently utilized across 19 ship classes and over 250 vessels. This new appointment aligns her experience in defense-industrial readiness with the advisory board's mission to drive economic growth for regional businesses.
