The initiative builds on initial work with the Ventura County Transportation Commission to simplify regional mobility. By adopting an open-loop payment model, the network now functions as a single transit system where passengers receive fare benefits regardless of which participating operator they use. The platform also streamlines the application of reduced fares for eligible riders, removing traditional barriers to public access.

Ventura County Unifies Transit Payments Through Open-Loop Expansion
Seven transit operators across Ventura County have integrated their fare systems, allowing riders to pay for travel using contactless credit or debit cards. This expansion, developed by Enghouse Transportation in partnership with the California Integrated Travel Project, enables automatic fare calculations and seamless transfers across agency boundaries.

According to Gillian Gillett, Chief of Data & Digital Services at the California Department of Transportation, the project marks a significant milestone for regional connectivity. Enghouse provides the underlying fare collection technology and real-time processing, while Cal-ITP supplies the statewide implementation framework. Daniel Sjöström, Managing Director at Enghouse Transportation and Public Safety, noted that the deployment serves as a foundation for future modernization efforts across California transit agencies.
