European bank customers increasingly favor AI for sensitive financial tasks

Twenty-nine percent of European bank customers now prefer consulting an artificial intelligence over a human employee for sensitive financial discussions. According to the new EOS Banking AI Barometer, this shift reflects a broader trend where consumers prioritize speed and 24/7 availability over traditional face-to-face banking interactions.

European bank customers increasingly favor AI for sensitive financial tasks

The study, which surveyed 4,400 individuals across eleven European countries, highlights a significant generational divide. Among respondents aged 18 to 34, the preference for AI-led financial advice climbs to 38 percent. While 46 percent of all participants report that AI has measurably improved their communication with banks, only 11 percent believe the technology has diminished service quality. Users primarily value AI for its efficiency, with 54 percent citing easier information retrieval and 51 percent praising round-the-clock availability.

Despite this enthusiasm, the human element remains a pillar of the industry. Sixty percent of consumers report missing a personal touch when interacting exclusively with automated systems. Marwin Ramcke, CEO of the EOS Group, notes that the most effective institutions treat technology as an enhancement rather than a total replacement for human relationships. The demand for AI is shifting from passive interaction to proactive financial management; 61 percent of customers specifically want automated alerts to prevent account overdrafts, while 51 percent seek AI-generated payment plans when managing outstanding receivables. For banks, the path forward involves balancing machine precision with the emotional intelligence that customers still demand.
