Nabla Adds OpenEvidence to Its Clinical AI Assistant

Clinicians often toggle between documentation software and research tools, wasting time re-entering patient data. A new integration between Nabla and OpenEvidence aims to bridge this gap, embedding peer-reviewed medical guidance directly into the clinical workflow by automatically pulling patient context into the search process during active encounters.

Nabla Adds OpenEvidence to Its Clinical AI Assistant

The integration allows doctors to access "Clinical questions" within the Nabla interface. By leveraging data already captured during the visit—including demographics, medications, and draft notes—the system prompts OpenEvidence to return cited answers grounded in medical literature. Nabla emphasizes that this process anonymizes patient data to maintain security standards, ensuring no protected health information is compromised during the search.

Laurent Landowski, Chief Product Officer at Nabla, stated that the goal is to provide flexibility by allowing health systems to integrate tools they already trust rather than forcing them into closed platforms. For users like neurologist Selwyn-Lloyd Mc Pherson, the shift reduces hours of research to minutes, enabling more confident, evidence-based care plans. This update marks a broader push by Nabla to evolve from a documentation assistant into a comprehensive workflow tool, with future plans to surface clinical guidance proactively before a clinician even asks.
