Misunderstood Brands Recruits Industry Veterans for Growth Push

As Misunderstood Brands prepares for a national retail rollout into chains like Walmart and Whole Foods, the company has appointed a five-person strategic advisory committee. The group, comprised of veterans from Diageo, Ripple Foods, and Uncle Nearest, aims to guide the spirits firm through its most aggressive distribution phase to date.

The new advisory committee arrives as the Jersey City-based company pivots toward rapid expansion for its flagship Misunderstood Whiskey and OATRAGEOUS oat milk liqueur. The appointees include former Diageo VP Chris Rigby, who oversaw the $437 million exit of Don Papa Rum; Ripple Foods CCO Brooke Swensen; and veteran marketer Brielle Caruso, known for her leadership at Casamigos Tequila. They are joined by industry executives Kyle Herman and Taylor Foxman, both of whom bring deep experience in commercial strategy and brand acceleration.

Co-founders JD Recobs and Chris Buglisi view the committee as a necessary buffer against the unforgiving retail landscape. Buglisi noted that the group represents billions in aggregate brand valuations, providing the company with the high-level expertise needed to navigate the competitive spirits sector over the next 18 months. With national placements secured at Total Wine & More and Publix, the firm is leveraging this collective track record to secure its position in the premium beverage market.
