Shift5 Wins $99 Million Army Contract for Command and Control

The U.S. Army has awarded Shift5 a five-year, $99 million contract to integrate its operational intelligence platform into the Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) initiative. This deal transitions the Arlington-based company from a prototyping partner to a core component of the military’s modernized, unified software ecosystem.

Shift5 Wins $99 Million Army Contract for Command and Control

Shift5 first entered the NGC2 effort in February via a partnership with Anduril Industries. Since then, the company has integrated its platform with Lattice and showcased its capabilities during live military exercises, including Ivy Sting and Project Convergence. The technology functions by collecting data from diverse weapon systems and translating it into mission-critical alerts for soldiers and continuous streams for logistics applications.

CEO Toby Magsig noted that the platform provides near real-time visibility, allowing the Army to make sustainment decisions at an enterprise scale. By unlocking data trapped within existing hardware, the system aims to help commanders anticipate equipment failures before they manifest as mission-ending events. The initiative remains a central pillar of the Army's push to incorporate commercial tech into its warfighting infrastructure, ensuring forces maintain readiness through enhanced cybersecurity and predictive analytics.
