Brightmoor Hospice Patients Alerted to Data Security Breach

Two employee email accounts at Georgia-based Brightmoor Hospice were compromised in March, exposing a broad range of sensitive patient records. The facility confirmed the unauthorized access this week, following a months-long investigation into the extent of the breach and the specific individuals affected by the incident.

Brightmoor Hospice Patients Alerted to Data Security Breach

The unauthorized access occurred between March 24 and March 25, 2026, prompting an immediate internal investigation and the engagement of third-party security specialists. By August, the hospice identified that the compromised accounts contained protected health information. Officials began mailing formal notifications to impacted patients on October 16.

Exposed data varies by individual but includes Social Security numbers, driver’s license details, medical histories, and insurance information. While Brightmoor Hospice reported no evidence of data misuse, the organization is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to affected parties. The hospice has reported the breach to the U.S. Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights and established a toll-free hotline at 1-800-759-8524 to assist those concerned about their personal records.
