Tenstorrent Secures $6.2 Billion Valuation to Challenge Nvidia

Tenstorrent has secured $1.5 billion in fresh funding, catapulting the decade-old chipmaker to a $6.2 billion valuation. This capital infusion arrives just months after the company spurned acquisition overtures from Intel and Qualcomm, signaling a definitive commitment to maintaining its independence while scaling hardware specifically designed for open-weight AI models.

Tenstorrent Secures $6.2 Billion Valuation to Challenge Nvidia

The funding round, led by Trace Capital and Innovation X, represents a significant leap from the $2.6 billion valuation the company held in late 2024. Backing from heavyweights such as Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, and Cadence Ventures underscores investor appetite for alternatives to Nvidia’s market dominance. CEO Jim Keller, a legendary figure in microprocessor engineering, pivoted toward this independent path after internal testing confirmed that the company's Galaxy servers could successfully execute complex DeepSeek models.

Capital will be funneled into the production of specialized chips optimized for video generation and large-scale open-weight model deployment. As the industry grapples with the high costs of AI infrastructure, Tenstorrent is positioning itself alongside competitors like Etched to capture market share from the current GPU incumbents. By prioritizing inference-focused hardware, the firm aims to carve out a sustainable niche in an increasingly crowded silicon landscape.
