Mach9 Secures $34M Series A to Automate Civil Engineering Design

After discovering that hardware was not the primary bottleneck in civil engineering, Mach9 Robotics pivoted to AI-driven CAD software. The startup has now closed a $34 million Series A round, led by First Round Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners, to scale its platform for automating complex infrastructure surveys.

Mach9 Secures $34M Series A to Automate Civil Engineering Design

The company, founded in 2021 by Alex Baikovitz, initially focused on building advanced hardware for visual inspections. However, direct feedback from engineers revealed that the true industry burden lay in processing massive volumes of laser scan and image data into usable survey maps. By stripping away the robotics focus, the startup moved into the AI-powered design space, where it now serves nearly 100 customers across more than 2,500 projects.

Mach9 aims to challenge legacy systems from industry giants like Autodesk and Bentley Systems by offering a platform that claims to be 10 times faster than manual workflows. Baikovitz notes that the software utilizes proprietary AI models trained to achieve centimeter-level accuracy, a requirement for professional civil engineering. The system generates a first-draft plan, providing engineers with a suite of refinement tools to ensure the final output meets strict regulatory and liability standards.

With this fresh capital, the team intends to expand its headcount and accelerate product development. The transition from hardware to software reflects a broader shift in the construction technology sector, where companies like CivilGrid and Blueprints AI are also racing to modernize infrastructure planning. For Mach9, the goal remains clear: moving beyond mere data capture to fundamentally changing how major transportation projects are managed and delivered.
