BeOne Medicines Reports Survival Gains in Esophageal Cancer Trial

Patients battling HER2-positive gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma saw survival rates climb following a triple-drug regimen in a Phase 3 study. By combining Tevimbra and Ziihera with standard chemotherapy, BeOne Medicines observed a 40% overall survival rate at the three-year mark, suggesting a potential shift in first-line treatment protocols.

BeOne Medicines Reports Survival Gains in Esophageal Cancer Trial

The trial recorded a median overall survival of 27 months for the combination therapy, marking a sustained improvement over the traditional trastuzumab-based approach. Researchers also evaluated a separate arm using Ziihera alongside chemotherapy alone, which yielded a median survival of 22.9 months. This result met the study’s primary endpoint, demonstrating a clear clinical benefit compared to the control group.

While the addition of Tevimbra extended median survival by four months, the company noted that this specific gain did not reach statistical significance due to the limitations of an underpowered analysis. Despite the nuance in the data, Mark Lanasa, BeOne’s chief medical officer for solid tumors, positioned the findings as evidence to establish the Tevimbra-Ziihera-chemotherapy cocktail as the new standard of care. Following the report, BeOne shares slipped 2% to $374.57 during Friday morning trading.
