Bedrock Robotics hits $4.1B valuation with autonomous excavator push

With a $600 million Series C funding round, Bedrock Robotics is rapidly scaling its autonomous excavator kits. The two-year-old startup, now valued at $4.1 billion, is transitioning from pilot testing to active commercial deployment, aiming to solve the construction industry’s widening shortage of skilled heavy equipment operators.

The company’s technology retrofits standard construction vehicles, allowing them to operate autonomously on active sites. These machines are already functioning at a Nevada water treatment facility, a Texas earthwork site managed by Champion Site Prep, and a large-scale project with Zachry Construction Corporation. Co-founder and CEO Boris Sofman, a veteran of Waymo and Anki Robotics, emphasizes that the goal is to integrate these systems into existing workflows as a reliable tool for contractors.

Bedrock is capitalizing on a labor crisis, as the Associated Builders and Contractors projects that 40% of the current workforce could retire within five years. To address this, the startup has secured new partnerships, including one with Arizona-based contractor Haydon, and bolstered its leadership with executives from Amazon and Uber. With nearly $1 billion raised since its 2024 founding, the firm is now expanding its infrastructure to support wider commercial adoption across data centers and industrial projects.
