UN Commission Report Details Systematic Crimes in Palestinian Territories

A UN-mandated commission of inquiry has released a 19-page report accusing Israeli forces of crimes against humanity, including extermination, torture, and sexual violence. The findings assert that genocidal acts in Gaza persist despite a nominal ceasefire, while systemic violence intensifies across the occupied West Bank.

The report, authored by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry, documents the deliberate targeting of civilians and the infliction of severe bodily and mental harm on children. Investigators highlighted the notorious Sde Teiman prison as a site of egregious sexual assault, noting that abuse was not limited to Palestinian detainees but also extended to international activists seized at sea.

Escalating Violence and Political Motives

Beyond Gaza, where casualties have surpassed 250,000, the commission identified a dramatic surge in lethal force within the West Bank. Between October 2023 and September 2026, aerial bombardments in the region killed 254 Palestinians, a sharp increase from the six deaths recorded during the previous 15-year period. Commission chair Srinivasan Muralidhar stated that these actions, paired with the destruction of homes, form a broader strategy to render life unliveable and thwart the viability of a future Palestinian state.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, currently wanted by the International Criminal Court, faces pressure to secure his far-right coalition ahead of upcoming elections. Cabinet members have publicly advocated for the annexation of the West Bank and the continued displacement of the population. The commission also criticized the Palestinian Authority for its failure to investigate killings and its suppression of domestic dissent, concluding that the overarching Israeli policy remains rooted in historical patterns of colonization and the denial of Palestinian self-determination.
