Apple Expands Siri AI Capabilities in iOS 27.2 Update

Apple has deployed iOS 27.2, extending Siri AI language support to include French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The update introduces memory-based context for the digital assistant, allowing it to recall personal preferences and pull information from Safari, Messages, and calendar data while tightening security across the ecosystem.

The update grants Siri AI the ability to retain details from past interactions, aligning it with competitive models from OpenAI and Google. Users retain control over this data, with options to exclude specific apps from the assistant’s memory. Alongside these intelligence upgrades, Apple is extending Apple Pencil functionality to the foldable iPhone Duo to support Notes and Preview, despite ongoing display concerns reported by early adopters.

Communication features receive a significant boost through Dual Capture for FaceTime, enabling simultaneous streaming from front and rear cameras. The update also integrates support for third-party sign language interpreters and live captioning. For media consumption, the Podcasts app now surfaces active listening sessions and new episodes, while Apple TV introduces Multiview for sports, allowing users to track up to four simultaneous streams for MLS, F1, and MLB games.

Security remains a priority with over 160 patches included in the release. Apple has backported critical fixes to iOS 26, which currently runs on 80% of active iPhones, and even to iOS 18. The latter includes a patch for a vulnerability linked to sophisticated, targeted spyware exploits, though the company declined to disclose specific details regarding the origin of the attacks.
