The capital injection will expand the firm's capacity to design, engineer, and manufacture high-tech products across sectors like aerospace and defense. Co-founder Jeff Wilke, a former Amazon commercial CEO, frames the initiative as a response to the perceived national security risks of American deindustrialization. General Catalyst CEO Hemant Taneja noted that the investment is intended to help the U.S. ecosystem regain its ability to build hardware at scale to better compete with China.

Manufacturing Accelerator Re:Build Secures $2.1 Billion Investment
A massive $2.1 billion infusion is set to accelerate Re:Build’s efforts to bolster American manufacturing. Led by General Catalyst and JPMorganChase, the funding aims to scale domestic hardware production and launch industrial startups, positioning the Massachusetts-based company as a strategic hedge against international supply chain reliance.

Founded in 2020 by Wilke and Miles Arnone, Re:Build operates as both a manufacturing partner for existing industrial firms and an incubator for new ventures. The company now oversees a network employing over 2,100 people across 2.4 million square feet of space. This ecosystem previously birthed the electric vehicle startup Slate Auto, which has independently raised at least $1.4 billion to develop customizable, low-cost pickup trucks. With deep ties to Amazon’s leadership alumni, Re:Build is positioning itself as a central hub for industrial revitalization.
