Free Fire India now functions as a standalone application on Android and iOS, featuring localized content designed to meet government standards. The developer, a subsidiary of the South Asian firm Sea, has implemented mandatory parental controls, playtime limits, and spending caps to address regulatory scrutiny. Crucially, all user data is now housed on domestic servers, a direct response to the security apprehensions that triggered the 2022 ban.
Despite the original game’s removal, Garena maintained a foothold in the region through Free Fire MAX, which escaped the initial crackdown. The company’s head of operations in India, Vaibhav Das Mundhra, confirmed that both versions will coexist, allowing players to synchronize accounts and compete in unified events. The move intensifies the local competition against Krafton’s Battlegrounds Mobile India, which has struggled to replicate the massive user engagement Garena enjoys in the country.
