Takeda Pharmaceutical Lifts Profit Outlook After Strong Quarter

A sharp turnaround in the second quarter has prompted Takeda Pharmaceutical to raise its annual earnings forecast. The Japanese drugmaker swung to a net profit of 192.4 billion yen, roughly $1.22 billion, significantly outpacing analyst estimates and recovering from losses incurred during the same period last year.

The company’s quarterly revenue climbed 6.7% to 1.187 trillion yen, bolstered by strong performance from core products. Sales of the ulcerative colitis treatment Entyvio increased by 11% to 273.4 billion yen, while plasma-derived therapies saw an 8.1% rise to 277.2 billion yen. These figures stand in stark contrast to the previous year, when the bottom line was hampered by impairment charges linked to discontinued cell-therapy research.

Looking toward the fiscal year ending in March 2027, Takeda now anticipates a 4.3% revenue increase to 4.700 trillion yen. The firm also upgraded its net profit projection to 209.00 billion yen, marking a notable improvement over its earlier estimate of 166.00 billion yen.
