TFI International Shares Dive After Earnings Miss

A 15 percent stock plunge greeted TFI International investors Friday morning as the Canadian logistics giant posted quarterly profits that trailed analyst expectations. While revenues climbed across several key segments, a sharp contraction in less-than-truckload operating income and a conservative fourth-quarter outlook triggered a swift market sell-off.

The company reported adjusted earnings of $1.67 per share, missing its own internal guidance of $1.70 to $1.80 and falling short of the $1.75 consensus target. Total revenue reached $2.23 billion, narrowly missing the $2.24 billion projection. The primary drag on performance was the less-than-truckload segment, where operating income cratered 43 percent, hampered by a $14.4 million noncash impairment charge. This decline overshadowed growth elsewhere, including a 22 percent revenue surge in the logistics unit and a 15 percent gain in the truckload business.

Financial strain extended to cash flow, which dropped to $116.4 million from $199.4 million a year ago. Management’s forecast for the final quarter further soured sentiment, with adjusted earnings projected between $1.30 and $1.40 per share—a figure well below the $1.66 anticipated by analysts. Shares of the Toronto-based firm were trading at 132.99 Canadian dollars late Friday, narrowing the company’s year-to-date performance to a 6.3 percent decline.
