Capital Power Profit Slides as Commodity Derivatives Weigh on Revenue

Capital Power’s third-quarter net income tumbled to 67 million Canadian dollars, a sharp decline from the 153 million reported during the same period last year. Despite the drop in net income, adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization climbed to 553 million Canadian dollars, outpacing the 491 million mean estimate from analysts polled by FactSet. This performance gain was fueled by the integration of the Hummel Station and Rolling Hills power facilities, alongside stronger results from the company’s flexible generation segment in Canada.

Quarterly electricity generation reached 14,485 gigawatt hours, up from 13,374 gigawatt hours a year prior. Looking ahead, the company maintains a full-year adjusted EBITDA target between 1.57 billion and 1.77 billion Canadian dollars. Capital Power currently manages 12 gigawatts of capacity across 35 North American facilities, including a recent agreement to supply 250 megawatts to a Meta data center project in Sturgeon, Alberta.
